1. WHAT IS PHOTO STREAMING?
When we say Streaming, we mean the live broadcast or digital distribution of multimedia content through a computer network, so that the user uses the product at the same time it is downloaded. The word broadcast refers to a continuous current that flows without interruption, and usually to the broadcast of audio or video, but we have adapted this process to the Still Photo.
To carry out the streaming operation, it is necessary to have a steady connection to the Internet, both in transmission and reception (preferably of at least the same bandwidth as the transmission rate). In order to ensure that the bandwidth remains constant during the Streaming process, we work with Antenna / Router configurations that improve the captured signal and facilitate a fluid workflow.
The presence of qualified personnel is necessary for the execution of the initial setup, as well as for the continuous supervision of the process and / or the realization of the modifications that may be required in each particular Streaming situation.
2. PHOTO STREAMING MAKES IT POSSIBLE...
Participate in real time in any photographic session in a remote way, regardless of the distance between the place where it takes place and the different locations of the receivers. This is an advantage when it comes to being able to review a session when, for professional reasons, logistics or relevant situations, interested persons cannot attend the session (Art Directors, Creative, Clients...)
After a brief setup of a simple application (it is done in a few minutes and we can even do it remotely), the people who participate remotely will be able to view the photos as they are captured (on an Ipad or in a web browser on the computer). In addition, there are tools for scoring and labeling the images, reflecting these selections made remotely in the source session. This selection operation can be performed independently of the job that the Digital Technician is executing in the session.
Access to the content is completely safe. The authorized people who are going to receive the signal via photographic streaming access the session through a link sent by email. Access with this link is protected by a password generated for each session.
3. WHY CHOOSE PHOTO STREAMING IF I CAN USE A VIDEO CONFERENCING TOOL LIKE TEAM VIEWER, ZOOM, SKYPE,...?
We could think that working in remote control with an application like Team Viewer or Anydesk would allow us to do the same in a simple way, but there are several reasons that do not advise us:
- Using one of these applications leads to an increase in contrast and saturation in the image that makes the receiver view the image differently. It is not configurable.
- By sharing our computer with these apps, the receiver will see our screen in “Mirror” mode... which means that every little operation, text, notice, etc, that appears on the screen will also appear on the receiver's screen. The digital technicians who operate the computers during the session need to do tasks on a regular basis for the correct performance of the session (backups, connections, organization) that will also be shown to the receiver, this being not our objective.
- To score or label images, the receiver should take control of the computer with her keyboard and mouse, which would create a conflict when operating the computer between the Digital Technician and the receiver, especially when these two people do not see each other. Imagine with four receivers... crazy!
4. WHAT DO WE NEED FROM YOU?
An accessible internet signal, both on the production set and at the destination of the Photo Streaming.
That you give us information, at least two days in advance, of the location where the photo session will take place.
That you provide us with the email address of all the people who are going to participate remotely by Photo Streaming, at least one day before the shooting, so we can send them the link to download Capture Pilot and the link to enter the Photo Streaming session.
